Ruthven Barracks
Hanoverian Barracks burnt down in C18 but still splendid on its promontory. Well worth a visit foir the family. Near Kingussie.
Sites on a rising promontory beside the main road north, you can see the strategic value of the site and it was recognised by the Hanoverian kings who used it as a barracks which meant that their troops had easy access North and South. It was burned during the 45 and never rebuilt.
It remains a striking and stark place and in remarkably good condition. On a good day, it is well worth a visit and makes a great site for hide and seek with the kids.
