Martha’s Shore Cottage, Glencaple, sleeps 6
Peacefully set with panoramic views over countryside to the Nith Estuary, these detached, single-storey holiday cottages have their own garden and have been furnished and equipped to the STB’s ‘4 Star’ standard. Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Martha’s Shore Cottage was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700 - generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the door with abundant birds and wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves within easy reach. Shop/P.O. and good village pub ½ mile.

1st comment: This cottage is fantastic. Superb, riverside location, very nicely furnished and very well equipped plus little extras to make it the best cottage we have stayed in. We enjoyed watching the river and warming up by the log-burning fire - perfect! March 2012.
2nd comment: This is an excellent cottage in a fabulous location - ideal for anyone seeking a quiet picturesque spot. Fantastic wildlife on the doorstep, and well pcaed to visit WWT Caerlaverock as well as the Castle and of course nearby Dumfries. Highly recommended. Nov 2011.
