Beyond Loch Tummel is the little village of Kinloch Rannoch, where backpackers can stock up on supplies before heading into the hills. Kinloch Rannoch is a small remote village located at the eastern end of Loch Rannoch, on the banks of the River Tummel.

Sixteen miles west of the village the road ends at Rannoch station, where you can catch trains north to Fort William or south to Glasgow. You can grab something to eat here at the little tearoom. Beyond the west end of Loch Rannoch is bleak Rannoch Moor which extends all the way to Glen Coe. By the station is the Moor of Rannoch Hotel, Tel. 01882-633238, which does good, moderately priced meals. There's a daily (except Sunday) postbus service, Tel. 472386, from Pitlochry to Rannoch station, via Kinloch Rannoch, or check with Elizabeth Yule Transport (see Pitlochry Transport).
