Glen Lyon
If you have your own transport, make a detour up Glen Lyon, one of the most beautiful of all Scottish glens. Though it is a prominent Central highland destination , Glen Lyon is little known and less visited. Extending over 25 miles , Glen Lyon is pictersque and well worth exploring and is close to the village of Fortingall in the East.
On a summer's day there can be few lovelier places on earth, as the River Lyon tumbles through corries and gorges and through flowering meadows, with high mountain peaks on either side and eagles soaring overhead. It's no surprise that Wordsworth and Tennyson waxed lyrical over its qualities. The road from Fortingall runs all the way to the head of the glen, at Loch Lyon. This is walking and fishing paradise. There are several Munros to 'bag' and fishing permits are available at the Fortingall Hotel.
