Taymouth Castle
19th century castle that was Queen Victoria's honeymoon site and the start of her love of all things Scottish. Closed and awaiting renovation (maybe)
Built over the structure of a Z PLan house between 1801 and 1842, the castle has been a home, school, hotel and now awaits something new.
It is a very impressive pile built in the Scottish Baronial style and is run down and empty. However, it is impressive from the exterior and gives a real sense of how feckless Scottish aristocrats wasted their money hugely.
Plans to turn it into a 6 star hotel have come to nothing and it remains an impressive ruin!
Opening Times
Wander around carefully and be aware that the structure may be dangerous.
