Ardlamont House
Georgian Mansion dating 1820, Category B listed and now rented out as posh self-catering or weddings. Lovely views over sea.
Built in 1820 by Major General Lamont, the house may contain elements of the older castle. This was the main seat of the Lamont family although the family power was already on the wane. The house was sold in 1893 after or during the time of the notorious Ardlamont Murders of the same year in which Monson was accused but not proven guilty of murdering his pupil who had taken out life insurance policies in the name of Monson's wife. later Monson sued Tussauds for erecting a wax work of him. A case that became very significant in libel law.
