The main road north from Perth, via Inverness that continues all the way to Scrabster on the far north coast
The A9 is truly the great road north in Scotland. Starting from Perth it travels through the Highlands passing Pitlochry, Aviemore and then dropping into Inverness. From Inverness it follows the East coast before finally ending at Scrabster.
Driving North on the A9 is both a great pleasure as you take in the broad sweep of the Highlands especially as you rise up across the Drummochter Pass, but this is also a dnagerous road with long frequent stretches of single carriageway and a frustrating number of towed caravans and Tesco lorries plodding towards their supermarkets in Inverness. Drive patiently and with care!
