Customer Reviews of Cauldside Cottage Gatehouse of Fleet, sleeps 4
st comment: The cottage and its location are superb, and really represents a very typical Scottish property. Access via the gated track was ok, given the weather and rain, but with a 4x4 it wasnt an issue - and I doubt you would need one in the dryer months. It was a very nice touch that the house was warm and well lit for our arrival, and that both the kitchen and lounge fires were laid ready for us. It really is suprising just how much space there is in the cottage, and the big country kitchen was a real joy, with the lounge being very cosy especially once the fire was ablaze. The bedrooms and bathroom upstairs are warm and cosy, in fact the master bedroom was so warm we had to open windows and push the duvet down! With our two dogs the cottage was perfect, loads of space for them and the downstairs toilet/utility room was perfect for drying wet towels etc. Outside you really felt away from it all, and the only other property in site was on the other side of the valley, our only real neighbours were some ponies and the odd cow or two who came to poke around the garden. We did climb up the hill/mountain next to the cottage, well worth the effort as the view is superb. We would certainly recommend this cottage and would love to visit again. Dec 2011.
nd comment: Amazing, quiet, secluded, location with no other houses in sight just beautiful views of hills. Fantastic for wildlife lovers we saw bats, dormice, house martins roosting under the cottage eaves, red deer, frogs and much much more. Fantastic for people who have dogs and we took a 2 year old there who absolutely loved the freedom to roam without traffic dangers etc. A gem of a property in the most amazing location you could want for peace seclusion and wildlife. Than kyou so much we did not want to come home but do intend to return at some point. The weather was so hot which was also a bonus. July 2011.
rd comment: Exactly what we were looking for -comfortable accom with lovely views and peace and quiet. April 2011.
th comment: Great rural location. Cottage had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Warm with loads of hot water!! Appreciated gate across driveway being up this year-kept Hector the Westie away from the nightly visiting cows. Lovely part of the world, loads of information leaflets in cottage re walks, beaches etc - we went somewhere different everyday. This was the 2nd year we have been to Caulside and we will be back. June 2011.

th comment: A fabulous rural retreat, lovely shabby chic cottage with everything we needed. cottage very dog friendly with tiled floors downstairs and childgate to stop him going upstairs but gate at entrance broken so garden not completely enclosed. Will definately go back. June 2010.
th Comment The property was lovely and as described. Clean and welcoming. Dogs loved it. Children loved it. April 2010.
th Comment Loved the farmhouse feel, tiled floors are practical with the dogs. Heating is very good, loads of hot water. We also really like the wood-burner on at night. It was exactly what we expect of a nicely appointed, yet traditional cottage. March 2010.
th Comment It is a very nice cottage in a great location (if you like isolated). The cottage could do with some TLC and a bit of a make-over and a shower would be a good addition. The drive to the cottage is a rough track of half a mile and in winter a 4wd vehicle would help, but once you are there - fantastic! Dec 2009.
th Comment Remote, homely, peaceful. Worth mentioning that the track leading to the cottage is difficult in wet and icy conditions. Dec 2009.
th Comment Cosy and perfect for a secluded getaway. Love the long drive up to the cottage and so close to Galloway Forest which was beautiful! Baloo our dog loved it and we did try to keep him off the furniture! Loved the real fires. The cottage was very warm when we arrived and there was plenty of room. Would go again. Needs a shower putting in though. Nov 2009.
th Comment The in word was shabby chic, comfortable, lived in feel, everything provided. Oct 2009.
th Comment The remote situation. Warm friendly cottage. Sept 2009.
th Comment This was a great area for all aspects of a holiday, from walking in the hills to pottering on the beaches to visiting the quaint towns along the peninsula, a week was not long enough. The cottage was traditional throughout, remote with fantastic scenery. All facilities and fuel were provided and included. Very cosy and homely, we didn’t want to leave. July 2009.
th Comment A great place to unwind and escape the hurly burly of our working lives. The situation, peace and quiet, lovely views, able to take 2 dogs. July 2009.
th Comment Both holiday and accommodation were fantastic - the owners at Cauldside were very welcoming and helpful, the property was clean and warm and beautifully furnished, we definitely want to stay at the cottage again soon! March 2009.
