Just North West Durness on Scotland's far north coast is Balnakeil Beach, a curve of white sand backed by huge dunes. Balnakeil Beach is popular with families and walkers en route to Faraid Head at the north end.
Families and Couples tend to huddle on the southwesterly-facing beach at the northern end of the bay, which is accessible only at low tide and provides some warmth from the sun. But don't come to sun bathe, but to stride along the perfect sand in the wonderful light.
