Corse Castle
Z PLan 16th century castle from about 1581. Now ruinous. Visit with care
When the previous house was sacked by brigands in the early 16th century William Forbes of Corse vowed, "if God spares my life I shall build a house at which thieves shall knock ere they enter". The result is a typical example of a Z plan house which was the stock design for the minor nobility of the 16th century. Both comfortable and also safe although in the case of Corse Castle, not sufficient to stop Highlanders semi sacking the place in 1638 and the lairds cousine being carried off for ransom.
By the 19th century the castle was abandoned for the nearby Corse House
Opening Times
Walk from the road. Other visitors have reported the profusion of nettles within. As always take care in these old houses.
