Aboyne Castle
Formerly derelict castle that was restored in 1979 by the Marquess of Huntly. The building was once more extensive but has been remodelled to class tower style castle.
Aboyne Castle dates back to the C13 when it was built by the Bissetts with express instructions from Edward I on the nature of fortifications. Its position is strategic and helped control the Pass of Mounth. The castle passed through various hands before being acquired by the Gordons in 1449 who own the castle today.
The architecture of the castle is equally diverse and have been remodelled in various ways, it now stands assymetrical with various extra towers. The view today is very much the work of the repairs in the last 20th century.
