Tigh-na-Creige,Colintraive, sleeps 8
In a secluded and tranquil location, with stunning views of Loch Riddon in the Kyles of Bute, this spacious, modernised holiday cottage stands in mature, landscaped gardens with its own private beach, two moorings, a reinforced grass slipway and several acres of woodland just north of the village of Colintraive - which faces Bute, the most accessible of the Western Isles. The nearest pub/restaurant is 2½ miles away.
Just 40 miles from Glasgow airport, Tigh-na-Creige is the perfect place to fall off the world. The deep glens and narrow sea lochs are typical of the west coast and there is a huge selection of Scottish wildlife to be found - including deer, seals and birds of prey. The nearby villages of Colintraive and Tighnabruaich lie in the heart of west coast sailing country. The Cowal Gathering, the world’s biggest Highland Games, is held in nearby Dunoon – which also has a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. And the beautiful isles of Bute and Arran are easily accessed by ferry or visitors’ own boats. Rothesay on Bute is only 12 miles away and offers alternative shops, restaurants and bars as well as numerous visitor attractions, including the renowned Mount Stuart; while Loch Lomond National park is just 15 miles away - adding to the cottage’s appeal for walkers and cyclists of all abilities - and boasting much breathtaking scenery with dramatic peaks, waterfalls, hidden caves and mysterious forests.
However, easy loch-side walks start right outside the front door. The nearby scenic viewing platform overlooking the Kyles is renowned as one of the most picturesque in Scotland - and many of the local beaches match this description. The immediate area is packed with more challenging leisure activities - with horse riding, a sailing school, climbing, quad biking, high-speed RIB boat tours, golf and outdoor education centres all available locally.
Nearby, the magnificent mountainside setting of Benmore Botanic Gardens (Mar-Oct) is well worth a visit. Tigh-na-Creige has been fully refurbished to an exacting four-star standard. Most rooms have sea views. Shop 2½ miles.
