Home to the city's collection of Scottish art, with works by Peploe, McTaggart, Ferguson and Eardley as well as more contemporary artists such as Blackadder and Paolozzi, as well as being one of the leading temporary exhibition spaces in the UK. Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop and Gallery 23 Union St, off Leith Walk, Tel: 5572479. Exhibits a huge range of contemporary etchings, lithographs and screenprints. You can buy prints in the shop at reasonable prices and see the workshops. Open Tue-Sat 1000-1800. Free.

The Fruitmarket Gallery 45 Market St, Tel: 2252383. Near Waverley station. One of the country's major venues for exhibitions of national and international contemporary art. Analogue 102 West Bow, Old Town, Tel: 2200601 It is a home of comtemporaray culture books and wide selection of magazines.
