Laurel Tree, nr Taynuilt - Sleeps 6
This truly excellent Scandinavian style lodge, set 30 metres above the River Awe and just half a mile from the Bridge of Awe, has unspoilt views of the river and surrounding mountain scenery. Civil marriages may take place within the grounds as the owners have a licence, and marquee hire can also be arranged on request. Graded as ‘5 star’ accommodation by S.T.B, it offers a very high standard of accommodation and is only 14 miles from the bustling harbour town of Oban, the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, and just 2 miles from the thriving small village of Taynuilt. It is surrounded by wildlife, golden eagles and buzzards which are often seen, or more adventurous visitors can spend a day on the seas dolphin-spotting. Catch a ferry from Oban to the Isle of Mull, one of the Inner Hebrides, where visits to Torosay Castle or the colourful town of Tobermory are possible. Sail to the beautiful island of Iona and visit the restored Iona Abbey, originally a medieval Benedictine foundation and one of the most sacred historical sites in Scotland. Visit Inveraray Jail, an award-winning living jail and courthouse where men, women and children were jailed from as early as the 1820s. Glencoe and Fort William, known as the ‘Outdoor capital of the UK’, are within easy reach and promise a memorable day out. Close by there is plenty to see and do for all ages from exploring the historic Bonawe Ironworks, venturing inside the hollow mountain at Cruachan, watching the seals at the Sea Life Centre, playing a round of golf, visiting one of the many beautiful castles and gardens. Outdoor enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with fishing, canoeing, sailing, walking, climbing, bird-watching, cycling along some of the many forest tracks or lazing on the beach just a handful of the activities on offer. Customer Reviews of Laurel Tree, nr Taynuilt - Sleeps 6
1st comment: A great property for a relaxing stay. Overlooking the River Awe and sorrounding hills, this property is fitted out to a very high standard and is a great base for exploring the beautiful coast, countryside, lochs and mountains in the sorrounding area. Strongly reccomended, I am sure we will be visiting again. June 2012.
2nd comment: Extremely comfortable, spacious, modern lodge - all facilities & utensils provided. Beautiful setting. Friendly & helpful site owners. Dec 2011.
3rd comment: What a fantastic example of a luxury lodge. Many dont live up to the "luxury" tag, but with 3 lovely double bedrooms all, 2 with en suite bathrooms, 3 jacuzzi bats and a sauna to match this really is a lovely property. As for the view ovber the river and snowy mountain, absolutley fantastic. Very comfortable and would comfortably sleep 6. Local amenities are not partcularly close, so dont expect a walk to the shops, local pub was very average but nice none the less. But the fact you’re close to so many tourist attractions, it doesn’t really matter that there is not alot to do in walking distance. Saying that we were there in December, it maybe slightly different in the warmer months. Dec 2011.
4th comment: The property was beautifully furnished throughout and extremely spacious with everything you could possibly need while away on holiday. The alpine lodge style accomodation was modern but in keeping with the beautiful countryside around it. The location is good too giving a feeling of isolation while being within a short drive of shops and pubs/ restaurants. We have already recommended it to friends and family. Aug 2011.
5th comment: Exceptional attention to detail. Owners could not be more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely touch on arrival was the food of breakfasts, bread, butter, juice, tea, coffee, eggs, and Scottish shortbread especially after a long drive. Aug 2011.
6th comment: Slightly disappointed on arrival as we expected the house to be isolated as the picture gave this impression. There were a row of log cabins, this being the last, however inside more than made up for any unease and it was beautiful with every need catered for and so clean. The elder children enjoyed the sauna and we had great trouble getting them out to view surrounding areas. There was internet connection (unexpected) so if you want to take lap tops, sit on the veranda with a drink overlooking the river, why not!.The nearby smokery was well worth a visit (next door) and the walk through the woods is a must with children. The scenery is breathtaking and this holiday was thoroughly enjoyed by all. July 2011.
