Kirkcudbright - known as the ‘Artists’ Town’ - hosts a wealth of coffee shops and art galleries and is a short walk from the impressive ruins of Maclellans Castle. There are many festivals throughout the year including Scottish nights, classic car rallies, historic walks, a medieval fayre, a jazz festival and a spectacular tattoo. Kirkcudbright sits on the edge of the Galloway Hills and on the estuary of the River Dee and offers many outdoor pursuits including fishing, horse riding in Galloway Forest Park, cycling and golf. Threave Garden and Estate is owned by the National Trust and proves to be a popular visitors’ attraction. Dumfries is approximately 25 miles to the east and Castle Douglas is 8 miles, making this a wonderful base from which to tour South West Scotland. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

2nd comment: A spacious, comfortable property in a beautiful, relaxing part of Scotland. The property is set well back from the main road so is very quiet whilst still well located for easy access to surrounding areas. There is ample parking in the grounds. The garden is immense and private and attracts a lot of wildlife which is a pleasure to behold. Sept 2011.
