Beyond Callendar we start to climb into the Trossachs passing rivers, lochs and forests until we reach the Highland proper and the wilderness of Rannoch Moor and then to the majestic and atmospheric Glencoe (of Campbell and MacDonald fame). We then drive along the shores of Loch Linnhe before reaching our base and accommodation for the night in Fort William.
Overnight in Fort William.
Day 2 - The Road to Skye
Today we set off from Fort William to Skye with a wonderful drive that passes the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct (of Harry Potter train fame) as we head to Mallaig which is a busy little harbour on Scotland’s west coast and the traditional route to Skye before the bridge was built in the 2000s. From here we take the ferry onto the southern tip of the Isle of Skye. After arriving in Armadale, we will drive across the Sleat Peninsula before spending time in Glenbrittle with its famed waterfall or Elgol with its wonderful seascapes and dramatic views of the Cuillin Hills and Talisker with its beautiful Bay. From here we then drive to our overnight base in the Lochalsh and Skye area where will sleep for the next two nights of the tour.
Day 3 - Exploring Skye
Today is your opportunity to see some of the wonders of Skye. We cannot predict what we will see as your guide will choose the best itinerary to suit the weather and local conditions to give you a chance to get off the beaten track and slowly discover the best spots for photo opportunities. We might see whales and backing sharks or head for the tip of the Neist Peninsula, or head north to the Old Man of Storr. You can never predict the weather, but there is one thing that is sure which is we will pack it in! In the late afternoon we return to our overnight base for the evening and a good night's rest!
Day 4 - The High Road Home
Today we travel south through Glen Shiel/Eilean Donan Castle and past magnificent Loch Cluanie as we head east for a view of Britain's highest mountain Ben Nevis. Continuing south, the route passes through the Monadhliath Mountains and then into the Central Highlands where we make a stop in Highland Perthshire.
Travelling south again we return to the Lowlands and back into Edinburgh with views over the Forth estuary and the world famous Forth Rail Bridge.
