Blair Athol Distillery
One of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland and an easy visit from Pitlochry or the A9 if you are on the way north. Tours throughout year.
Established in 1798 in the popular Perthshire town of Pitlochry, Blair Athol Distillery is one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. It is now owned by United Distillers and Vintners. Whisky produced here is used in Bell's Eight-Year-Old Extra Special, the biggest-selling blended whisky in the UK, and the water comes from from the Allt Dour, the burn of the Otter. The 12-Year-Old Malt has a fresh, peaty, nutty, spicey flavour. A free dram is given after the tour, and the admission charge includes a discount voucher, which is redeemable in the well-stocked distillery shop towards the purchase of a 70cl bottle of malt whisky.
Children under eight years old are welcome but are not encouraged to take the tour.
