This latest addition to Dundee's collection of restaurants and eateries brings a contemporary edge to dining out Indian style.

While the dishes are proudly traditional the surroundings are coolly modern with simple blinds in natural fabrics, bold blocks of colour on the walls and plain white dishes on the tables.

Uncluttered and uncliched, the focus at Babu Gs is very much on the food which is varied, delicious and very plentiful.

The starter menu offers a wide choice of pakoras, samosas, kebabs, purees and popadoms ranging in price from a couple of pounds to a fiver.

Unable to make up my mind I opted for a mixed appetizer (4.95) to share. The dish of light and flavoursome vegetable, chicken and fish pakoras and succulent lamb and chicken tikka portions was just fine for two and set us up perfectly for the main event.

It can be quite an effort trying to narrow down the choice of main courses. The menu seems to go on for pages. There are more than a dozen speciality dishes alone as well as a selection of balti, tandoori and burryani options and of course all different degrees of curries from kurma right through to vindaloo.

Prices are all around the seven to ten pounds mark. Rice, nan and chapati's are all ordered separately and cost around two or three pounds per portion.

I opted for the Manter Janter, a generous helping of juicy chicken and tiger prawns smothered in a rich spicy sauce bursting with mushrooms, green pepper, pineapple and spring onions.

My partner plumped for the lamb balti passanda and after listening to the oohs and mms coming from his side of the table I insisted on trying some for myself. It was gorgeous. The creamy and slightly nutty sauce was given extra bite with a touch of warm spices and a few fresh green chillies.

After such spicy fayre we decided to try out the ice cream to cool our tastebuds and what a good move it turned out to be. The Turkish delight ice cream is sheer heaven. Deliciously creamy with big chunks of light, fragrant Turkish Delight.

The Babu Gs menu also includes a low fat selection so those watching their diet can tuck in without feeling guilty.
