The Byres Cottage, Scottish Borders - Sleeps 14
The Byres is a stylishly converted 19th century farmhouse steading next to the River Ettrick and surrounded by the scenic Scottish Borders countryside. Six large bedrooms.
This beautifully developed and furnished 19th Century Farmhouse Steading offers comfortable and stylish accommodation for 14, that is light, warm, cosy and spacious.
We have six bedrooms, a large kitchen area, dining room (that really does seat 14), games room, extensive lounge, a private garden, courtyard and 4 acres of land with a private stream - plenty of space for up to fourteen guests.
New from 2013 another similar house is also available close by. This also sleeps 14 and both houses can be booked together for groups of up to 28 people.
Also coming soon will be one or two luxury mongolian yurts by the stream - perfect if you have up to 6 extra guests to accommodate.
Behind the house the land slopes gently down to the Ettrick River- a tributary of the Tweed and famous for it's salmon fishing. Surrounded by open countryside, with quiet roads and abundant wildlife, the area offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Fishing, walking, cycling, kayaking and bird watching can all be based from the house. Boating on lakes, horse riding, and several golf courses are all close by; as well as the excellent mountain biking centres of Glentress and Innerliethen.
Edinburgh is easily accessible for a day trip, and the pretty Borders town of Melrose, Kelso and Peebles are not far, with many other tourist attractions in the area such as Abbotsford House - the home of Walter Scott, St Mary's Loch, Melrose Abbey, Traquair House, and Bowhill House and Country Estate. Unwind in the evening at home in comfort with food, games and chat (board games, cards TV, DVDs and pool table provided), or take a trip to the local Pub in Ettrick Bridge. Traditional and welcoming, they run a thriving restaurant and serve several Scottish ales and an impressive selection of whisky. They also do a meal delivery service.
