Wanlockhead nestles within the Lowther Hills and is Scotland's highest village at 1531 feet above sea level. The fascinating lead-mining museum is across from the cottage and is a 4 star visitor attraction with a coffee shop. The village also has a pub/restaurant. The surrounding countryside is spectacular for walking and the Southern Upland Way passes nearby. Numerous recreational activities in the area include golf, fishing, pony trekking, cycling and even gold-panning! Easy day trips can be enjoyed to Dumfries and Moffat or to Glasgow or Edinburgh (both an hour's drive). Nearest shop 1 mile with further shopping in Thornhill.
1 lovely bright double bedroom with king-size bed, very comfortable lounge with open fire, excellent kitchen with dining area off, shower-room with double unit. All electric with solid-fuel central heating. Fridge, freezer, microwave, television, DVD player. Bed linen and towels are provided.
