Chapel Cottage, Lochgilphead - Sleeps 6-8
Set within the charming, private estate of Kirnan House, in an AONB, these properties (SEEJ, SEEK and SGGI) offer ideal, peaceful holiday retreats. Surrounded by 605 acres of unspoilt woodland and 25 acres of garden, they are sympathetically renovated to the highest standard. Steeped in history, the estate was originally owned by the Dukes of Argyll and the gardens are recognised as the second finest on the west coast of Scotland. This is a haven for wildlife lovers, with red, sika and roe deer roaming freely, as well as pine martens, red squirrels and woodcock. Scottish wildcats are frequently seen in the glen and there are mating pairs of osprey on the River Add, with eagles regularly sighted. The woods contain the remains of an historic settlement, Kirnan Beg. Kirnan is an environmentally-friendly estate which aims to become self supporting, and can offer guests fresh eggs, vegetables, pork and lamb. Where possible, everything used on the estate is recycled. The estate is an ideal base for fishing, walking, stalking, shooting, cycling, sightseeing and horse riding. The owner’s RIB boat is available by separate arrangement and sea and loch fishing can be provided, as well as scenic tours of the coastline. Local attractions include excellent restaurants (especially seafood), museums, castles and the famous Crinan Canal. Under an hour from Oban, with day trips to the beautiful west coast islands, and closer ferries to Gigha and Jura. This is an important area historically, with the highest concentration of Neolithic monuments in Great Britain. Close to the famous Kilmartin Museum. Shops 4 miles, pub 2 miles.

Customer Reviews of Chapel Cottage, Lochgilphead - Sleeps 6-8
1st comment: The most relaxed holiday we have ever had in he UK. Accommodation was superb and hosts relaxed and helpful. The best thing was our 3 dogs were completely welcome. Dog beds and water bowls (and welly boots!) provided for us. June 2011.
2nd comment: A mixture of old fashioned (part of old house on an estate) and modern. But still keeping a strong historical character. It was almost like stepping back in time. June 2011.
3rd comment: Shabby Chic throughout! Jan 2011.
4th comment: Fantastic location, great property, supported by wondeful hosts. Sept 2010.
5th comment: The house is set in beautiful countryside with plenty of interesting walks that can be taken. It’s very private and tranquil and the interior of the cottage is very tastefully decorated. The owner, Ross, is particularly helpful and the children were delighted to find a giant cuddly toy sitting on one of the beds. There was also a bottle of wine and chocolates sitting on the kitchen table when we arrived which was a nice touch. July 2010.
6th comment: The whole estate is lovely. The cottage feels very homely & has all that you need. June 2010.
7th comment: We are a family of 6 and the accommodation was plenty big enough for us all, with adequate seating etc. In the past we have felt squashed in a cottage advertised as sleeping 6, but really being a 4+2. April 2010.
8th comment: Spacious with a touch of luxury. Dec 2009.
9th comment: Beautiful surroundings, lovely furniture, quite - the best! Ross and Di were the perfect hosts - made us feel more than at home - wonderful people. Sept 2009.
